A little bit about myself. .

I am first generation Canadian, daughter of Italian immigrants. The ways of my Italian heritage run deep. I love Canada, but in my blood there is always a yearning for the old world, which is part of the reason I left home at a young age to attend Fashion Design school in Milan. I lived there for 8 years, and they were formative ones. All the things I knew about myself up to then were completely challenged - like believing I didn’t like seafood or blue cheese only because it wasn’t something we ate at home. Turns out I love seafood and blue cheese.. and as I’m sure you know, those are very small examples that lend nicely for a greater picture.

I went to school and landed some great gigs. I worked for designers like Gianfranco Ferre and Versace. I’m forever grateful for those opportunities and experiences. I learned a lot, but after some time, I realized it wasn’t a right fit for me. Discouraged, and defeated I moved back to Canada. I had to start all over again. After a few creative ventures, along with waitressing, working boring jobs in retail, and taking classes, I landed in Natural Dyeing. It has become a real passion for me. Practicing ethical ways of garment making is key, and extremely important.  But there is something so grounding and healing in the process that speaks volumes to me. Maybe it’s because you are connecting to nature, and therefore you connect to source. Maybe it’s because you are given the chance to see things in a different light, that there is beauty in decay and in all cycles of life. Or maybe it’s because it’s humbling to know that nothing is forever. That everything has a cycle and that the only thing that is constant is change.

It’s probably all of that.

A lot has happened in these years. At 43 I’m still learning, and trying to figure things out, but this I know for sure... Every time you get knocked down you need to dust yourself off and get back up. You can stay down for awhile, cry and feel all the feels you need to feel.. but then you gotta get back up. And if you can do it with grace, peace, and an open and loving heart, nothing is wasted and you are living a really beautiful life.
